Editing LR

1) Reflect on the process you went through to try and meet the brief. What did you learn about filming, organising media projects and the challenges involved?

I learnt that media projects are very time consuming in both planning and production. I also learnt that you have to re-shoot scenes a lot of times. It was very challenging to make the edit seem continuous as there are loads of small details that have to be perfect - and some are very obscure.

2) What were the strengths and weaknesses that you noticed in the screenings of other students’ editing videos?

I noticed that a few weaknesses were knowing where to cut the clips to make the edit seem continuous and there were quite a few errors with objects not being in the same position i.e. doors. there were also lots of times that the 180 degree rule was broken.

The strengths were that the brief was always interpreted creatively and over the shoulder shots were well done. The continuously edits were well done when someone was walking across a room and the camera changed perspective.

3) What have you learned from both this project and the lessons on editing that will help you when you start the actual coursework later this year?

I have learnt that it is good to always over plan and shoot scenes that may not end up in the final project. I have also learnt that it is important that i check every detail and frame of a shot to ensure that the transitions are smooth.
